No double fries in Malaysia. McDonald’s announced a rationing of fries in the country because of supply chain problems, while the group faces shortages in several other Asian countries. “We are facing a significant shortage”, McDonald’s Malaysia announced in a social media post from the Southeast Asian country this week.

Franchises had to remove large portions of fries from sale because of “supply problems”, detailed the group in a statement to AFP. McDonald’s promised to “to follow very closely” supply status to put large portions back on sale as soon as possible.

Supply chain issues affect many sectors of the global economy, ranging from electronics to food. In Taiwan, McDonald’s temporarily suspended the sale of “hash browns” in January because of an insufficient supply of these hash browns imported from the United States.

In Japan, McDonald’s announced in early January that it would cut portions of fries for a month due to flooding in Canada and disruptions to the global supply chain.
