32 years after opening its doors in Russia, McDonald’s restaurants will close in Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
McDonald’s restaurants will definitely draw the curtain in Russia. After temporarily closing in March, this time they will remain completely closed. The group will also sell all its activities there. The CEO of the chain announced his decision in a press release, he said that “the group is committed to its global community and it must remain adamant to its values”.
McDonald’s is 850 restaurants on Russian territory and no less than 62,000 employees who will find themselves unemployed. However, they should retain their remuneration until the closing of the sale. Customers are also disappointed with the closure of establishments and they express their sadness and disappointment. For them, it is a symbol of capitalism which is leaving while the arrival of the group 32 years ago had aroused particular enthusiasm in Russia.
