“We heard the first explosion which was not far away, we reacted quickly, my daughter started screaming (…) we were told to go down to the basement, I grabbed my daughter in the corridor, there was a second explosion,” says a mother. Russia has carried out several deadly strikes in kyiv and the east of the country. The toll is one of the heaviest in months: at least 36 dead and 140 wounded. While Moscow assures that it has only targeted military infrastructure, Ukraine is demanding a strong response from the West.
