In kyiv (Ukraine), Monday, July 8, in the still smoking rubble, rescue workers search for possible survivors. A human chain spontaneously sets up to remove debris after debris. The children’s hospital in Kiev hit this Monday is one of the largest in Europe. The facility that has just been bombed is in ruins, and some patients were evacuated just in time.
“We heard the first explosion which was not far away, we reacted quickly, my daughter started screaming (…) we were told to go down to the basement, I grabbed my daughter in the corridor, there was a second explosion,” says a mother. Russia has carried out several deadly strikes in kyiv and the east of the country. The toll is one of the heaviest in months: at least 36 dead and 140 wounded. While Moscow assures that it has only targeted military infrastructure, Ukraine is demanding a strong response from the West.
