In his column, Michel Mompontet looks back on recent releases, in particular Les Rivales (Alpha, by Véronique Gens and Sandrine Piou), as well as the success of Louis Sclavis’ quartet, Les Cadences du Monde (Jms – Cream).

The pianist Bertrand Chamayou has just recorded a disc around Olivier Messiaen, resuming the Vingt regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus (Erato). “With such a title, rather austere, mystical, demanding contemporary music, the emotional impact on the public is absolutely dazzling”relates the journalist of France Télévisions, Michel Mompontet.

Another disc, thunderous and fun, is out, Les Rivales (Alpha), by Véronique Gens and Sandrine Piou. “They recorded a tribute disc with the history of 18th century opera singing. They pay tribute to two great rivals, Madame Dugazon and Madame Saint-Huberty”says Michel Mompontet.

On the Jazz side, Louis Sclavis hatched a record, Les Cadences du Monde (Jms – Cream), with Bruno Ducret, Ana Luis and Keyvan Chemirani. “He has just put together an extremely original quartet with strings and percussion, bows, woodwinds and skins”explains Michel Mompontet.
