Martin Scorsese’s new film will be presented in the official selection

The distributors had announced this week the theatrical release of the film in October, before its online streaming platform AppleTV.

Martin Scorsese’s next feature film, Killers of the Flower Moon, will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next May, the organizers of the event confirmed in a press release on Friday March 31, after having anticipated it last week. They specify that this presentation will take place on May 20, in the company of actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro or even Lily Gladstone, which predicts a nice climb of the steps.

First in Cannes since 1986

Martin Scorsese is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival, where he chaired the jury in 1998 to award the Palme d’Or to Greek director Theo Angelopoulos for eternity and a day. But he will make his return to the official selection this year. Indeed, it is the first time since 1986 that the filmmaker will present one of his films at the Festival. The filmmaker came to the Croisette to present his film After Hours.

According to its press release, theCannes Film Festival is delighted to welcome Martin Scorsese next May on the Croisette, to climb the steps of the Palais des Festivals alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion , Tantoo Cardinal as well as other cast and crew members of Killers of the Flower Moon. The film will be presented on Saturday May 20 in the Grand Théâtre Lumière.

Reign of Terror

Based on the best-selling book by David Grann and written by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon takes place in Oklahoma in the 1920s and retraces the serial murders of members of the Osage community, which had grown rich thanks to the oil present under its land. This series of violent crimes is known today as the “Reign of Terror”.

Director, screenwriter, actor and producer, Martin Scorsese has dedicated his life to the 7th Art and the Cannes Film Festival has accompanied him on many occasions. He received the Palme d’Or in 1976 with Taxi Driver, presented in Competition. He then returned regularly to the Official Selection and won the Director’s Prize for After Hoursten years after the coronation of Taxi Driver.

Four years later, he chaired the Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury, notably in the company of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. Since 1990, Martin Scorsese has directed the Film Foundation, an organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and transmission of the world’s film heritage. As such, he presented numerous films at Cannes Classics.
