5:14 p.m. : 15 activists from@attac_fr displayed a banner “Let’s not let the ultra-rich destroy the planet” in front of the mega-yachts of Cannes to denounce the lifestyle of the ultra-rich, irresponsible and disconnected from the challenges of climate change
5:12 p.m. : Extinction Rebellion is not the only NGO to carry out actions on the Croisette. About twenty minutes ago, 15 Attac activists unfurled a giant banner “Don’t let the ultra-rich destroy the planet” in front of a mega-yacht in Port Canto, Cannes. The objective is “to denounce the way of life of the ultra-rich, irresponsible and totally disconnected from the challenges of climate change”according to Attac.
4:32 p.m. : Good morning @Granny. It was indeed Thierry Frémaux who was riding an electric bike in front of the Carlton hotel on the Croisette. “Thierry Frémaux arrives very quickly on his electric bike, the municipal policeman, who has done his job very well, tries to stop him and runs behind him… That’s all, they shook hands afterwards”, explained to France 3 Paca a spokesperson for the town hall.
4:32 p.m. : I understand French but who was on the bike? Frémaux or the municipal policeman and who asked for the name of the other? Explanation not clear
4:23 p.m. : The altercation was filmed and broadcast on Twitter by a former journalist C news And South Radio. The sequence begins with the image of the policeman pushing back Thierry Frémaux with both hands, who advances towards him, pointing at him. The video has been viewed over 150,000 times in three hours.
4:19 p.m. : Tense atmosphere on the Croisette. 3:15 p.m. : In the middle of the Cannes Film Festival, the activists of Extinction Rebellion intended to disrupt private aviation, “symbol of climate injustice and the indecency of the ultra-rich”. For them, the announcements for the preservation of the environment of the Festival “are a big joke in the face of the indecent pollution of private jets: planes are responsible for 80% of the Festival’s greenhouse gas emissions”.
3:14 p.m. : Extinction Rebellion activists entered the tarmac at Cannes-Mandelieu airport. With remote-controlled cars, they tried to disrupt the traffic of private jets destined for Cannes Festival customers. According to France 3 Paca, the security services intervened and air traffic was not disrupted.
