This is the event this Sunday in Marseille. The archbishop of the city, Monsignor Aveline, created cardinal this summer by Pope Francis, officially appears before the people of Marseille during a mass in the cathedral of La Major. A rare and solemn moment, before 3 to 4,000 guests including many religious, civil, military and political personalities of the city, in particular the mayor of Marseille. “He presents himself to the Marseillais, he is with the family here”explains Father Brunet on France Bleu Provence. “He lived all his childhood, his adolescence in Marseilles. He is a priest of the diocese of Marseilles. He was auxiliary bishop of Marseilles, he is titular bishop of Marseilles, details the rector of the cathedral. So it is also an exceptional case for a baptized person to become a priest, bishop, cardinal in his diocese of origin. He is both touched and then it will be a great family celebration. In front of many people who will be very happy to be there, to be able to pray with him and to encourage Cardinal Aveline in his mission”.
The new sound system of the cathedral inaugurated for the occasion
During this solemn moment, the public will discover the new sound system of the cathedral. The system, which dates back at least 40 years, has just been completely replaced during a project lasting almost two months. Work done by Ecclesia Sounda Marseille-based company specializing in sound systems for churches.

“The specificity of the system, explains Joachim, owner of Ecclesia Sound, is that we can control each of the 27 speakers of the cathedral separately. This makes it possible to differentiate the zones according to the affluence. We can send the sound throughout the church or just in front of the church. The new speakers are adapted to the acoustics of the cathedral. Here, there are 13 seconds of reverberation. At Notre-Dame-de-Paris, only 9 seconds! So we are in a church that has more volume, marble everywhere, so materials that reflect a lot. With directional speakers, the sound is now sent to the audience and no longer to the ears of angels. The sound goes to the ears of the faithful”.
France Bleu Provence tested La Major’s new sound system.
A project of 100,000 euros financed by donations
The La Major sound system project lasted a month and a half at a cost of 100,000 euros. The works are financed entirely by the faithful. Subscription is open until October 2.
