Marion Maréchal, Reconquest candidate! in the European elections on June 9, will pay tribute to Joan of Arc on Wednesday May 1, in the village of Domrémy-la-Pucelle where the historical figure was born, in the Vosges. On the program, a gathering in front of the statue of the Maid of Orléans then a “patriot banquet”, with a speech by Marion Maréchal. For the moment, Marine Le Pen’s niece is struggling in the polls: 5.5% in the last Ifop, it’s the red zone: if she obtains less than 5% in the European elections, Reconquest! will have no elected officials.
“Taking up the torch” after the transfer of the RN
Jeanne D’Arc, “he is a great popular historical figure that no one talks about anymore except us”, explains a leader of Reconquest!. It is above all a question of recovering a symbol that the National Rally has abandoned. Jean-Marie Le Pen’s National Front has long paid tribute, every May 1, to Joan of Arc in Paris. This is no longer the case in recent years. Wednesday May 1, Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella will be meeting in Perpignan, far from the figure of Joan of Arc, for a “festival of nations”. “Marion Maréchal takes up the torchjustifies one of his relatives, when the RN is renouncing in the name of de-demonization, it is a way of remembering why she and others left this party”.
With this pilgrimage to Domrémy-la-Pucelle, Marion Maréchal wants to send a message to those nostalgic for the old FN and try to win votes from Jordan Bardella, the other far-right candidate who is at more than 30% in the surveys. “It feels very Jean-Marie, identity and reaction to go to Domrémy”comments a close friend of Marine Le Pen, not very frightened by the maneuver.
A trip without Éric Zemmour
But all Reconquest! will not be in Domrémy-la-Pucelle. Éric Zemmour, the former presidential candidate, is having his May 1st separately, in Eyguières, in Bouches-du-Rhône, also for a popular banquet but without Joan of Arc. Nothing to do with the sometimes tense relations between the two figures of Reconquest!, assure the party executives, who prefer to highlight the need to “to multiply on the ground”. They also promise that Marion Maréchal and Éric Zemmour will soon make joint trips.
