Maria chapdelaine, an adaptation of the eponymous classic by Louis Hémon, will premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival on October 23. The fourth feature film by director Sébastien Pilote (The seller, The dismantling, The disappearance of the fireflies) will represent Canada alone.

On display throughout Quebec, Maria chapdelaine stars Sara Montpetit in the lead role, Sébastien Ricard, Hélène Florent, Antoine Olivier Pilon, Émile Schneider and Robert Naylor. It made a splash at the box office on its first weekend, Sept. 24-26, registering nearly $ 200,000 in revenue. This is the second best theatrical start for a Quebec film this year, just after Guide to the perfect family of the tandem composed of Ricardo Trogi and Louis Morissette.

Prior to its theatrical release, the film had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival.
