Marc-Olivier Fogiel: The terrible tragedy he survived and made him want to be a father

At 52, Marc-Olivier Fogiel is the proud father of two daughters, born across the Atlantic by surrogate mother thanks to the GPA (Gestation For Others), for the time being prohibited in France. The general manager of BFMTV had acted on his desire to become a father in 2004, following a tragedy.

Flashback: in December 2004 a tsunami ravaged Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India, causing the death of 250,000 people. At this time, several French personalities were on vacation in Asia, such as the actress Natacha Amal or the animator Marc-Olivier Fogiel. The latter has kept a logically traumatic but driving memory for his future. “To try to make it a little simple: either I made the choice of death, which was a real possibility, I let myself go, or I gave meaning to my life and I went towards life (…) I came back from the tsunami shattered. I needed doctors to get back on my feet, to be able to face the television cameras and I had only one obsession left, that of becoming a father.“, he confided in 2018 on the set of the show It starts today.

And Marc-Olivier Fogiel then gave himself the means of his desires. With her husband, photographer François Roleants, he took steps in the United States to take advantage of surrogacy. The former host recognizes that this requires financial comfort which is not within everyone’s reach and, without being militant, as he recognized on the set of It’s up to you on February 8, 2022, he regrets the absence of the subject in the current debates in the middle of the presidential campaign.

Marc-Olivier Fogiel became the father of Mila – whose godfather is his friend the singer Dave – born in 2011, and of Lily born in 2013. Recently interviewed by the magazine Paris Matchhe admitted to having very much wanted a third child but that her husband is categorically against, not wanting to redo professional sacrifices as in the past.
