A man believed to be linked to organized crime was shot dead Saturday evening in Laval.
Few details were available due to the ongoing police investigation, entrusted to the crimes against the person section of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The SQ, however, confirms that the victim is Marc Issa El-Khoury, aged 30. He was acquitted last year of the murder of a member of the Hells Angels in Ontario, on which the SQ refused to comment.
“He is an individual who is known to police circles,” however, recognized Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
The crime occurred on Saint-Martin Boulevard East, in the Duvernay district, where police officers from the Laval Police Service (SPL) first responded to a 911 call, around 11:30 p.m., concerning an armed assault. The victim was pronounced dead on site.
The murder reportedly occurred outside a reception room, where the victim was attending a party, which was not confirmed by the police.
The SQ investigation continues, in collaboration with the SPL.
The SQ mobile command post was on site Sunday morning, as well as specialized investigators.
“There are forensic identification technicians who are on site to analyze the scene and clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding the event,” said Camille Savoie, who was also on site.
“Anyone who may have information regarding this event is asked to contact the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec confidentially at 1 800 659-4264,” she stressed.
The motive for the crime is unknown at this time.
The SQ is also investigating the discovery of a vehicle set on fire in recent hours in Montreal to determine if there is a link with the death of El-Khoury in Laval.
