A man was shot dead and another injured on Monday evening in Grande-Synthe (North), near a large migrant camp set up in the neighboring town of Loon-Plage, the Dunkirk prosecutor told AFP , Tuesday, May 24. Monday evening, “the police were called around 11 p.m. by a migrant asking for help for an injured migrant” in a wooded area near the Grande-Synthe shopping center. The individual in his thirties, “a priori Kurdish” and wounded by bullets, died.
“Two hours earlier, another migrant had been found with a gunshot wound to the thigh, roughly in the same area”added the prosecutor, adding that this man would also be Kurdish, and that“there is no judicially established link between the cases”.
The day before, two men had been injured, one seriously, in “exchange of gunfire” in the Loon-Plage camp. The prosecutor confirmed on Tuesday that “impacted ammunition of weapons of war” were found there. The border police and the judicial police have been seized of the investigations. Asked about the trail of settling of accounts between smugglers, the prosecutor considered that it was“a hypothesis, but not easy to establish”. “It is certain that there is a background of human trafficking”he added.
