Major police operation leads to the arrest of 40 sex offenders in Quebec

A major police operation that mobilized 25 police forces in recent weeks resulted in the arrest of 40 sex offenders at high risk of recidivism.

It was the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) which revealed Thursday morning the existence of this dragnet which began on April 2.

Police forces from Montreal, Quebec, Longueuil, Laval, Gatineau and several other municipalities took part.

According to the SQ, the operation aimed to bring sexual offenders to justice who contravened the conditions to which they are subject under an order, as well as to arrest those targeted by warrants.

The 40 individuals arrested have appeared in court or will do so soon.
