A major fire of still unknown origin broke out on Wednesday in a building in central Paris, part of which collapsed, injuring at least one person, according to concordant sources and AFP images.
“A fire is in progress rue Saint-Jacques, in the Ve district of Paris. The Paris firefighters intervene. Please do not interfere with their intervention and avoid the sector,” French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted.

A snapshot taken by an AFP photographer showed a plume of smoke and flames rising from the ruins of a building.
According to the Paris public prosecutor’s office, “a building caught fire and partially collapsed” rue Saint-Jacques, a few streets from the Panthéon and the Luxembourg Gardens, and a first provisional assessment reports “an injured person burned” .
“There is nothing to determine the origin of the disaster” at this stage, said the prosecution.
