(Madrid) “He’s one of my favourite players, and after so many years, he’s finally here!”: to the delight of his fans, like Eric Ponce, 23, Real Madrid put the jerseys bearing Kylian Mbappé’s name on them on sale on Thursday.
“He didn’t have as good a Euro as he had hoped, […] “But he’s scored a lot of goals this season, and he’s proven every year that he can be better than that,” says the student, who came to buy the jersey at the official Real Madrid store near the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
“Our son is a fan of Mbappé, and we came especially to buy the jersey, we are very, very happy,” rejoices Diana Torres, a 37-year-old Colombian. “Look! I have goosebumps, it’s big, it’s something I can’t explain.”
Maria José Dena, a 50-year-old employee from Madrid, also bought a jersey for her son: “110 euros ($163) for the jersey alone, with the name, badges and everything […]. It’s expensive, but it’s for his birthday present, he’s been asking for it for months, it’s worth it.”
In adult sizes, the price of the “Kyks” jersey can climb up to 185 euros ($274).
On Wednesday, Real Madrid announced that the presentation of its new French striker at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium would take place on July 16.
The former Paris SG striker, who was eliminated on Tuesday with France in the semi-final of the Euro by Spain (2-1) after a disappointing competition on an individual level, will be received beforehand by the Madrid president Florentino Perez for the signing protocol of his five-year contract.
His presentation at the stadium, which will take place two days after the Euro final between Spain and England, will be followed by a press conference.
Real Madrid expect to recoup the cost of this transfer, which remains expensive (estimated salary of 15 million euros net per season and signing bonus of over 100 million) thanks to the various economic benefits brought by the French player (sponsorship contracts, shirt sales, ticketing).
