In Madagascar, several species of lemurs have been included in the list of the most endangered primate species in the world.
HAS Madagascar, off the coast of Africa, among the thousands of endemic species of the island: the famous lemurs. Primates that remind us of monkeys and stuffed animals and sometimes even in their attitudes, of humans. In a park near the Malagasy capital, seven different species coexist. A sanctuary for these endangered animals.
Rescued animals
Laurent Amouric, founder of Lemurs’Park, recreated their natural habitat. “Originally there was nothing so we planted about 15,000 trees and 12,000 survived”, he explains. Once the park is developed, the first lemurs come to settle. Survivors entrusted to the team by the Ministry of the Environment. “They gave us this approval to recover animals seized either from markets, from individuals, or possibly from hotels and restaurants which put animals in cages to attract tourists”, assures the Alsatian. Today, there are around sixty lemurs in the park with regular births.
