The winner of the Palme d’Or had accused the executive of having “shockingly denied” the protest against the pension reform in winter 2023, but also to want “break the cultural exception without which (it) would not be here today”. After these remarks, which had “stunned” the Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak, Emmanuel Macron had not sent a message of congratulations to the director.
