M for Montreal | The D’s for Discoveries

Today begins the M for Montreal event, whose festival component will this year offer around ten concerts for the public, until November 18. Here are some suggestions for shows not to be missed.

Milk & Bone, Cartel Madras, Virginie B and Dee Holt

Another all-feminine evening, where artists with varied styles and equally varied levels of experience will rub shoulders. Calgary hip-hop duo Cartel Madras will accompany Quebecers Milk & Bone, Virginie B and Dee Holt. The offering will be varied: the electro-tinged pop music of Milk & Bone, the neo-soul, pop and electro of Virginie B, the frank and fresh pop of Dee Holt.

The Heavy Trip record label is celebrating its tenth anniversary and, on the occasion, will present a performance live by Montrealer Marie Davidson, who will be preceded on stage by the Egyptian-born artist Nadah El Shazly, as well as Ouri and Pelada, in DJ set mode. The evening will therefore have a strong electronic flavor, while the eclectic genres of all the women on the bill will give the opportunity to oscillate from one rhythm to another.

Billianne and Alice

Billianne

Singer Billianne has not yet released a full album, but her talent and potential are undeniable. The one whose offering is reminiscent of that of Lizzy McAlpine, influenced by Taylor Swift, offers mature and comforting music at only 20 years old. Montrealer Alice will also be on stage that evening for the launch of her album.

Philippe Brach

Philippe Brach has presented his fourth album on stage a few times since its release. It’s been a few years since we last saw him headlining and the wait will surely be worth it, if Brach continues his tendency to present explosive and offbeat shows. “If you like a bunch of anything with lots of love, there’s a place waiting for you,” he announced while promoting this show and the tour that will follow.

Security

Security is Laurence-Anne, Félix Bélisle (singer of Choses Sauvages), Éliane Viens-Synnott, Melissa Di Menna and Kenny Smith. They are an art punk band, which combines synthesizers with a revisited punk structure, in a bilingual and ferociously catchy approach. Also on stage that evening: Atsuko Chiba, who is immersed in post-rock and progressive rock, CDSM, who offers an explosion of strange and captivating rhythms, as well as Population II, a psychedelic rock trio, as well as funk, jazz and punk music influence.
