Lyon city hall confirms the ban on foie gras in official receptions, according to information from franceinfo confirming information from Lyon Mag.

The city of Lyon has not ordered foie gras since October 2020, a decision taken by the municipal team of Grégory Doucet, EELV mayor of Lyon, for whom the production of foie gras “does not ensure animal welfare”. This product is therefore not present during receptions and official events in the city of Lyon. A decision which in particular reacted to the former mayor Gérard Collomb, who judges this ban “too bad for Lyon, capital of Gastronomy.”

Lyon is not the only city to have taken this decision: it is also the case in Grenoble and Villeurbanne. In Strasbourg, the ecological mayor Jeanne Barseghian has banned foie gras from her official receptions since taking office in July 2020 for the same reason.
