In a text published in The duty on June 10, the former editorialist of The Press André Pratte is delighted with the decline of the sovereignist movement and the misfortunes of the Parti Québécois, which is his strictest right. To illustrate his point, he highlights a statement by former PQ leader Lucien Bouchard, made during the inauguration of the celebrations marking the 100e birthday of René Lévesque. The person who led Quebec to the gates of its political sovereignty in 1995 described, in this declaration, the independence project as a “dream”, which leads André Pratte to claim that “according to the former Prime Minister, the death knell has sounded for the ‘independence as a realistic project’.
However, in the eyes of Lucien Bouchard, this project is much more than a dream, that is to say a project too beautiful to be realized according to the definition given by Robert quoted by André Pratte. Indeed, in an interview given to journalist Patrice Roy on RDI on June 3, he affirmed that independence “is a political necessity when we look at the history of Quebec”. Obviously, we are far from the chimeras of Mr. Pratte, whose interpretation of the use of the word “dream” by Lucien Bouchard is far-fetched to say the least.
