Longueuil | Four suspects arrested in drug operation

(Longueuil) Longueuil police arrested four people Wednesday morning during an operation targeting individuals who allegedly played a role in various violent events linked to the sale of drugs.

The police visited five addresses on Wednesday morning and made four arrests. No information on those arrested was immediately released.

According to agent Ghyslain Vallières, who is spokesperson for the Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL), charges of drug trafficking and possession of drugs with a view to trafficking could be brought against the suspects.

Control of the sale of narcotics is at the origin of several violent incidents which have occurred in recent weeks in the territory served by the SPAL.

Last Saturday, a man was attacked with a knife in a building on rue Louise, in Vieux-Longueuil. The police indicated that the suspect and the victim were known to law enforcement for their involvement in the world of drugs.

Three episodes of gunfire also took place in this sector of Vieux-Longueuil last May, which pushed the SPAL to increase its presence there.

The Longuillois police force has set up a special project, called Soprano, to counter gun and drug violence. The arrests on Wednesday morning are part of this operation.
