For all silhouettes

Mckenna Bisson, founder of clothing brand MAS Montreal, is busy these days. MAS, which means “more” in Spanish because the designer wants to offer more diversity in the clothing offer (cut, size and style), is at the Salon des Métiers d’Art du Québec, which is held at the Palais des congrès from Montreal until December 19.

The young woman, who launched her business five years ago, wants to dress all silhouettes. “I’m in shape, I play sports, and it’s important for me to be good in your body, to feel good in your clothes,” she says. That’s why I started my brand, because I want to be comfortable in everyday clothes and I think that’s what a lot of people want. ”

The style of MAS Montreal? Clean-lined clothes, classic cuts, wide pants, plain blouses, chic and practical shirt dresses, well-cut skirts and soft knit sweaters.

“I choose with the greatest care fabrics that are ecological,” she explains. I use natural fibers, linen for the summer collections, bamboo rayon, lyocell. Everything is made here, in my workshop, in Montreal. ”

What are his inspirations? “The people I see in the street. Trips too, Mexico, Spain, Benin, ”underlines the one who studied fashion marketing in Quebec.

Mckenna Bisson stresses the importance of encouraging local brands. “I think people are more and more aware of buying locally and want to support local businesses. But at the same time, they do not always realize the cost of labor, which makes the price of clothing higher, ”she said.

MAS Montreal clothing can be purchased on the brand’s website or in a few Montreal boutiques such as Unicorn and Belle et Rebelle. It is also at stand 311 at the Salon des Métiers d’Art.

One t-shirt per month

T-shirt of the month for January, illustrated by Raymond Biesinger

One t-shirt per month, illustrated by a local artist. This is the concept of the Art T-shirt Club launched this year. It is also a way to promote the practice of illustration by encouraging the next generation and supporting local illustrators. Thus, the t-shirts for the different months of the year are signed by artists such as Pony, Baltic Club, Ben Tardif, Max Prévo, Camille Pomerlo and Geneviève Bigué. It is possible to share a subscription or buy a t-shirt individually. The sweaters are printed locally at the Unik Printshop screen printing studio, and shipments are made in compostable bags, with a short text that features the illustrator of the month.
