On the 43rd day of an unprecedented political crisis in the Fifth Republic, no solution is on the horizon. Emmanuel Macron is still looking for a way forward to form a government. Before flying off for an official visit to Serbia, scheduled other meetings on Thursday, August 29, in the morning, this time with leading local elected officials: first with Carole Delga (PS), President of the Regions of France, and her predecessor in this position, Renaud Muselier (Renaissance), then the President of the Association of Mayors of France, LR David Lisnard. “We will say [au président ce matin], at the level of all regional presidents, that it is necessary to have a government quickly to be able to continue reforms”, assured Carole Delga on TF1. Interviewed in the “Four Truths” on France 2, Renaud Muselier estimated for his part that the “governance pact must rely on group presidents” the national assembly. Follow our live stream.
“I’m not a candidate for anything,” insists Carole Delga. The president of the Regions of France called on Wednesday in The ParisianEmmanuel Macron to appoint a left-wing Prime Minister: “This is the message of the French in the legislative elections. They have given a tendency of a government which is rather left-wing,” she explains. “I’ll say it right away, I’m not a candidate for anything,” she assured, without closing the door.
The PS opens its summer university. The Socialist Party launches its summer days in Blois (Loir-et-Cher) on Thursday, divided on the future of the New Popular Front and the strategy to be implemented after Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint Lucie Castets to Matignon. The latter is expected in Blois on Friday for a “big interview”.
Emmanuel Macron must choose his Prime Minister from the left, according to Carole Delga. “Let’s stop telling ourselves stories: it is the President of the Republic who appoints a Prime Minister. He has the right to refuse Lucie Castets. But he has the duty to choose from the left bloc”she said in an interview with Parisian Wednesday.
Laurent Wauquiez describes the interview as “disappointing”. Received Wednesday morning at the Elysée, the leader of the right considered that the president must stop “procrastinate”. “No new position, no real project for the French (…), no vision of what a government program would be for the months to come”lamented Laurent Wauquiez to the press. The Republicans say “open to collaborative work with the future government”, but without participating in it.
