Quebec is in a new wave of cases of COVID-19, confirmed Thursday the national director of public health Luc Boileau, who is however not ready to tighten the screw on Quebecers.
“It’s a wave, it’s a rise that takes the form of a wave. She is important. It already exceeds what we had seen during the fourth wave “, in particular in terms of hospitalizations, indicated Mr. Boileau at a press conference in Montreal Thursday, in the presence of the Minister of Health Christian Dubé. “For me, we are in a seventh wave”, then insisted the national director of public health, adding that this should however run out of steam in the coming months.
For nearly a month, hospitalizations have been on the rise in Quebec, as have new cases of COVID-19, in a summer context marked by the return of festivals without health restrictions and the end of the mask in public transport and the vast majority of public places, with the exception of hospitals. Mr. Dubé, however, wanted to be reassuring on Thursday.
“The situation is under control for the moment and our objective is to protect the most vulnerable,” the minister said. But we must remain vigilant, he added, and respect the rules of isolation. “For me, the isolation rules are one of the ways to learn to live with the virus,” said the minister.
People with weakened immune systems should also get a booster dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, added Mr. Boileau. “At the moment, it’s circulating [la COVID-19] and it’s a good time to get a booster dose, insisted the national director of public health. Go ahead, it’s the right time”.
As for wearing a mask in public places, it is recommended for people at risk or who have recently contracted COVID-19, said Mr. Boileau.
