Benoît Costil has finally come out of his silence. More than two weeks after the altercation with Florian Brunet, the spokesperson for the Ultramarines and the accusations of racism made against him by the group of supporters, the goalkeeper of the Girondins de Bordeaux published a message on his account on Wednesday Instagram to clarify his position. Benoît Costil, who joined the Bordeaux group last weekend as a substitute in Lille, talks about “malicious individuals” who have “publicly peddled false information“. He recalls his “values” and his “education” before specifying that he has appointed a lawyer to take legal action. Finally, the international goalkeeper specifies that he will do everything between now and the end of the season to save the place of the Girondins de Bordeaux among the elite of French football.
The text of Benoît Costil’s message:
To all my contacts, Supporters, Club and friends,
From March 20, 2022, ill-intentioned individuals believed they could undermine my honor and my reputation, by publicly peddling false information, accusing me of having made so-called racist remarks and behavior within the ‘effective. I dispute with the greatest strength and the greatest firmness these false accusations which correspond neither to my values nor to my education. This is why I have asked my lawyer, Maître David Bousidan, to initiate the appropriate legal proceedings, in order to shed light on this case and the motives of their authors, who will have to answer for their actions. Moreover, and above all, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart the countless people from all walks of life, who support me and send me their testimonies of sympathy and encouragement daily in this ordeal. Finally, I would like to reassure the Public, the Club and all the supporters of the strength of my commitment and my unfailing determination to give the best of my person to ensure that our team remains in Ligue 1.
