LFI MP Éric Coquerel re-elected as chairman of the Finance Committee

This position was highly coveted, as it was responsible in particular for supervising the budget: since 2007 it has been held by a member of parliament from a group that has declared itself in opposition.

Eric Coquerel was re-elected on Saturday, July 20, as president of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, franceinfo learned from parliamentary sources. The La France insoumise (LFI) MP from Seine-Saint-Denis was opposed in the third and final round of voting to Véronique Louwagie (La Droite républicaine) and Jean-Philippe Tanguy (Rassemblement national).

In detail, Éric Coquerel obtained 29 votes, Véronique Louwagie 26 and Jean-Philippe Tanguy 18. The deputy Charles de Courson (Liberties, independents, overseas and territories) withdrew his candidacy at the end of the second round, paving the way for the re-election of Éric Coquerel.

This position was highly coveted, as it was responsible in particular for supervising the budget: since 2007 it has been held by a member of parliament from a group that has declared itself in opposition. “I will not be animated by any spirit of revenge,” said Eric Coquerel. “I organized this commission with total impartiality, I will continue, I greeted Véronique Louwagie, I greeted Charles de Courson and Jean-Philippe Tanguy”, he added.

“I will be a president who will defend, in front of the ministers who come to me, the program of the New Popular Front of sharing wealth and a revival of the economy by increasing salaries,” assured the LFI deputy, confirming that he would resign from the presidency as soon as a New Popular Front government is in place.
