LFI MP Aurélie Trouvé wins a commission presidency, against a backdrop of disagreement between LR and Macronists

The LFI MP won to everyone’s surprise, with 27 votes against 25 for Stéphane Travert.

Surprise at the National Assembly. La France insoumise MP Aurélie Trouvé won the presidency of the Economic Affairs Committee on Wednesday October 9, as divisions emerged within the coalition between Macronists and LR. Three committee presidents were elected on Wednesday, Foreign, Economic and Social Affairs, to replace their predecessors, who left the government.

And tension has risen in recent days between the group Ensemble pour la République (ex-Renaissance), chaired by Gabriel Attal, and that of the Republican Right (ex-LR), led by Laurent Wauquiez. The latter, however, had entered into a very lucrative agreement this summer to obtain key positions in the Assembly.

The right demanded a commission presidency in the same way as its new allies within the coalition and left the threat of presenting three candidates against those of the macronie, to block their path. Finally, they did not present a candidate in the strategic Social Affairs Commission, which returned to Frédéric Valletoux (Horizons), withdrew their candidate and gave their support to MoDem Bruno Fuchs to elect him at the head of the prestigious Commission of Foreign Affairs. But in the third and final round for the Economic Affairs Committee, if the LR deputy Julien Dive withdrew his candidacy, the right-wing elected officials did not support Stéphane Travert (related to the EPR).

Most abstained and one voted for the rebellious Aurélie Trouvé, according to a statement from Julien Dive to the press after the vote. It was therefore the LFI MP who won, to everyone’s surprise, with 27 votes against 25 for Stéphane Travert. “The LR wanted the presidency of the commission. The Macronists refused and presented their candidate. In the 3rd round, they withdrew and abstained. We are numerically more numerous [à gauche]so we won”commented a source in the Socialist Party to France Télévisions. “The common base is support for the government. For the rest, there is only a base when there is an agreement. EPR did not want to agree, that is the consequence”for his part affirmed the entourage of Laurent Wauquiez. “The Prime Minister indicated his concern regarding the solidarity of the different entities of the common base which was ultimately not there”for his part informed Franceinfo of Michel Barnier’s entourage.
