Leylah Annie Fernandez also eliminated in women’s doubles

Three days after being eliminated in singles, Quebecer Leylah Annie Fernandez suffered the same fate in women’s doubles on Sunday at Wimbledon.

Along with her partner, the American Taylor Townsend, she lost the flag 6-4, 6-7(6) and 6-3 against the pair composed of the French Caroline Garcia and the Brazilian Luisa Stefani. This comes as a bit of a surprise, considering Fernandez and Townsend were the sixth seeds in this tier of the prestigious competition. The losers were unable to convert the four break points they were offered.

It is also the second time that Garcia has the best of the Montrealer, since it is the latter who defeated her in the second round in singles.

Fernandez’s Grand Slam tournament isn’t over yet, however, as she competes in mixed doubles with Dutchman Wesley Koolhof. They will be in action on Monday against Britons Jonny O’Mara and Olivia Nicholls in the round of 16.
