Leveraging Portage Salarial for Enhanced Employment Flexibility

Wage portage is emerging as a viable solution for freelancers seeking flexibility without sacrificing social protections. This model allows independent consultants to work on projects while benefiting from employment-like advantages such as health insurance and retirement plans. Companies like Cegelem are expanding rapidly, offering comprehensive services and support to their consultants. With a focus on growth and international opportunities, wage portage promotes economic independence while ensuring that consultants are not isolated in their professional journeys.

The Rise of Wage Portage in the Digital Era

In today’s digital landscape, the demand for remote work and freelancing is surging as many professionals seek greater independence and flexibility in their careers. However, navigating the complexities of self-employment can be challenging, especially when it comes to sacrificing the benefits that come with a salaried position, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and unemployment support. Fortunately, the wage portage model offers a practical solution to enhance job flexibility while maintaining essential social protections.

Particularly in the realm of Digital Service Companies, the recruitment of consultants for various projects has become a priority. Prince Moukoumbouka, the founder and CEO of Cegelem, emphasizes the significant economic and social benefits of wage portage, stating, “It revitalizes employment opportunities and grants independents the ability to manage their schedules without the burden of administrative tasks.”

Experience the Best of Both Worlds

The concept of wage portage functions through a tripartite agreement involving a portage company, an independent consultant, and a client company. As explained by Moukoumbouka, “The consultant undertakes a mission for the client, who is then invoiced upon completion. This process allows the consultant to receive payment while enjoying the status of an employee.”

Through wage portage, consultants benefit from comprehensive social coverage, including health insurance, unemployment protection, and retirement plans, ensuring they have a secure safety net. “We provide genuine flexibility and autonomy for independents who prefer not to establish their own business structure. Ultimately, we merge the advantages of independence with those of salaried employment,” adds Moukoumbouka.

Cegelem fosters a dual contractual relationship: a service contract with the client and an employment contract with the consultant. Consultants do not have to wait excessively for payment, as they receive their salaries monthly rather than waiting up to 60 days for invoice processing. This guarantees financial stability, as Cegelem manages client payments and assumes associated risks.

In addition, like traditional employees, consultants engaged in wage portage have access to training opportunities. “We collaborate with partners to provide a training catalog that helps our consultants enhance their skills or pivot in their careers if desired. At Cegelem, our mission is to support, advise, and facilitate the professional growth of our consultants,” concludes Moukoumbouka.

Scaling Up and Expanding Globally

With five agencies across France, Cegelem is experiencing robust growth, having onboarded over 3,000 consultants and managing more than 1,000 payslips monthly. Employing a dedicated team of 50, Cegelem strives to create an optimal working environment for both consultants and clients.

In 2024, Cegelem is set to achieve a turnover of 86 million euros, reflecting stable growth for the fiscal year. “Our focus now is on managing this rapid expansion while enhancing our internal structures,” Moukoumbouka remarks. “We aim to stay agile and strengthen our offerings to remain a vital partner for consultants both in France and internationally.”

International operations currently account for 10% of Cegelem’s activity, driven by opportunities for consultants abroad. “We plan to develop these markets, allowing our consultants the choice of working under either French law or the local laws of their host countries, based on their preferences. This economic and social flexibility is a key advantage we provide,” he elaborates.

Comprehensive Services for Wage Portage Consultants

Central to Cegelem’s mission is the enhancement of its 360° service offerings for all consultants involved in wage portage. “We have developed an internal digital solution that is regularly updated to manage invoices and payslips, alongside additional services. These include rental vehicle options at competitive rates through local partners, assistance with real estate purchases via specialized brokers, and concierge services,” highlights Moukoumbouka.

The goal is to alleviate everyday challenges, enabling consultants to concentrate fully on their expertise and value creation. “The possibilities for our services are limitless. We strive to address every request that arises,” he adds. For instance, a consultant recently sought legal assistance to bring a partner from abroad, and Cegelem’s legal team was readily available to help. “This commitment to support and guidance is a hallmark of Cegelem’s culture, ensuring that independence does not equate to isolation,” assures the CEO. “After all, being independent does not mean being alone.”
