Lensois Loïs Openda joins Germany and RB Leipzig

Lens loses one of its strong men. The RCL announced the departure of its striker Loïs Openda to RB Leipzig on Friday July 14. The Belgian international leaves the north of France after a season spent in the blood and gold jersey, concluded with a very good second place in Ligue 1. “Author of a convincing season at the forefront of the Lensoise attack, Loïs Openda joined RB Leipzig and the Bundesliga at the dawn of the 2023-2024 season. The Belgian international, at 23, gives a new direction to his career after inscribing his name among the club’s most prolific artificers on a campaign”writes the artesian club in its press release.

Indisputable holder on the front of the Lensoise attack, Loïs Openda played all the matches of the 2022-2023 season in the league. In 38 days, he scored 21 goals (4th best total), including the fastest hat-trick of the past 50 years against Clermont in March, and delivered four assists. Elected player of the month twice in a row, in March and April, he was also part of the eleven type of the season during the UNFP trophy ceremony.
