Before them, legal aid lawyers in the Bas Saint-Laurent–Gaspésie region had adopted the same mandate. And those of Laurentides-Lanaudière must in turn decide on the question soon.

These lawyers are members of unions linked to the Federation of Professionals, which is affiliated with the CSN. They had already walked out on June 7 and 8.

Also, 210 other of their colleagues are rather members of the Federation of Legal Aid Lawyers, an independent group.

In the latter case, they have already walked out for a day and a half, on June 8 and 9. They have a day and a half of strike left to exercise.

The main point in dispute is compensation. Legal aid lawyers claim parity with criminal and penal prosecuting attorneys.

The Conseil du trésor did not wish to comment on the present negotiations with the legal aid lawyers.
