Gesture

A little sensitivity!

Challenged by the phenomenon of phantomization (ghosting) perpetrated by companies, during the recruitment process, and a statistic seen on the LinkedIn network (one in three candidates would be a victim), Michel Khoury, a French businessman, made a video reminding managers and staff of human resources departments to give a sign of life to candidates, regardless of whether the answer is positive or negative. According to him, “a negative answer is better than indifference” and following a job interview, “to give an answer to the candidate is to respect him”.

The number

83%

That’s the percentage of employers who plan to hire people without direct job-related experience, according to research from job site Indeed. As a result of the labor shortage, employers want to consider more experiences and skills not directly related to job requirements. About 86% of Quebec employers say they will invest “in training new, inexperienced employees so they can fill certain roles,” reads a statement.

The thing

have no ego

What are the disadvantages of having a big ego when leading a company or a team? According to Harvard Business Reviewis the worst enemy of good leadership. The ego can make leaders, who are nurtured by everyone’s attention, predictable. They risk making decisions that are not the best for the company, failing to learn from their mistakes, or becoming selfish. “Managing your ego is a leader’s main responsibility,” we read. When we seek more power and attention, we lose control. The ego reduces our ability to have vision and makes us act against our values. »

Diversity

Support for trans people

BNP Paribas is taking concrete action to support the LGBTQ+ community. Starting in July, the financial institution will provide financial support to its transgender employees in the transition process. The assistance will go up to $10,000. It already provides psychological support to these same people. In the past year, it has “consolidated its partnerships with the Canadian Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) and Pride at Work Canada,” reads a communication. “In addition, in its recruitment tool, BNP Paribas Canada has added voluntary questions on diversity and inclusion. In April 2022, the bank obtained Rainbow accreditation, issued by the Canadian LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC). »

The finding

Waste of time

Many small and large ways of accomplishing tasks at work waste leaders and managers’ time and are a strain on productivity. Forbes lists seven:

  • Not knowing how to delegate
  • Micromanagement
  • Disorganization
  • online distractions
  • Unnecessary meetings
  • Multitasking
  • Off-topic emails

“Executives spend three to four hours a week checking their emails,” notes Forbes who suggests opening their inbox only a few times a day.
