The former leader of the Greens is due to launch her leadership campaign on Wednesday in Sidney, British Columbia, with her co-candidate Jonathan Pedneault.

These two candidates are part of a short list of six candidates approved by the Green Party in the race for the leadership of the political party, confirmed two sources familiar with the matter. These sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation publicly.

The list of candidates includes Sarah Gabrielle Baron, who was an independent candidate against former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole in the riding of Durham, Ont., last year. There is also Simon Gnocchini-Messier, a federal civil servant who was the Green Party candidate in the riding of Hull-Aylmer, Quebec, in 2021.

Two other candidates, Anna Keenan and Chad Walcott, are also expected to enter the race together as co-candidates.

The Green Party is expected to announce its new leadership by November. This person will take over from Amina Kuttner who held the position on an interim basis following the resignation of Annamie Paul last year.
