“Le Devoir” wins seven nominations for the Excellence in Digital Publishing Awards

With seven nominations, The duty stood out once again this year at the Awards for Excellence in Digital Publishing, a pan-Canadian competition that rewards the work of creators of digital content.

In the Best News Coverage category, The duty received a nomination on Thursday for all of its coverage of the crisis in Ukraine in 2022. The daily offered comprehensive coverage, illustrating itself in several formats: digital articles, podcast episodes, videos.

Sharing our codes: looking at a linguistic reality also stood out in the Best Feature Article category. In this dossier, four young Montrealers explain how and why they feel the need to adapt their way of speaking according to the contexts in which they find themselves.

The video The shame of a Russian established in Quebec earned a nomination in the Best Online Video — Short Form category. THE Duty met Ilya Poletaev, a Montrealer of Russian origin and professor of music at McGill University. The latter had shared the feelings that have inhabited him since the outbreak of war by Vladimir Putin in Ukraine. His message was simple: the actions of the Russian leader do not reflect the feelings of the people he governs, on the contrary.

In the category Best online video – long format, these are two of the productions of the Duty which have been selected. The video Restorative Justice: The Two Sides of Healing, is interested in this process which allows a victim to meet his aggressor or an aggressor who committed the same gestures. A way for the victim to begin the path to healing. The team of Duty had notably met Mélanie, a survivor, and Martin, an offender, who both participated in the process and agreed to tell their story.

The other production of Duty selected, Is the electrification of transport the solution?, focuses — as its name suggests — on one of the means explored by political parties to respond to the climate emergency. The electrification of transportation was also at the center of the CAQ’s election campaign. But is it a viable solution?

The presence of Duty on social networks was also highlighted by the jury, who selected our coverage of the Quebec elections on Instagram, in the Best story on social media category.

Finally, in the Best Editorial Newsletter category, we find the nomination of the Courrier de la Planète, which is interested in various environmental issues while offering to talk about the beauties of nature to readers.

The winners will be announced on June 2 at an event at Arcadian Court in Toronto. Note that this year, among the main finalists we find The Globe and Mail garnered no less than 24 nominations, followed by Radio-Canada with 14 nominations and The Narwhal with 13.
