Three days before the New Year, it’s difficult to escape controls. The police have deployed a major system against firecrackers and fireworks mortars. In Vogelgrun (Haut-Rhin), on the border between France and Germany, pyrotechnic objects are systematically seized. All category 1 and 2 pyrotechnic objects are prohibited in France. Obtaining it can be very expensive.

“For a small quantity, for recreational use, we will move more towards a reminder of the law. Depending on the quantity and the type of category of pyrotechnics seized, we can go up to a prison sentence of six months and a fine of 7,500 euros.“, explains Stéphan Bleyer, captain of the gendarmerie.
In Germany, many French people come to stock up on fireworks. In the country, everything is on sale over the counter. In recent days, seizures have increased. 20,000 fireworks mortars were found in the Paris region, 850 were intercepted in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin).
