Quebecer Laurent Dubreuil won the gold medal in the 500-meter event held on Saturday in Stavanger, Norway, as part of the Long Track Speed Skating World Cup.
The athlete from Lévis continued his momentum and beat all his rivals with a time of 34.573 seconds. He beat Russian Artem Arefyev by 35 thousandths of a second.
Pole Marek Kania took third place, clocking 34.653 seconds.
Canadian Gilmore Junio (35.293) finished 19th among the 20 competitors entered in the A final.
For Dubreuil, 29, this is a third consecutive podium this season in the 500 meters.
In the cumulative ranking of the season over 500 meters, Dubreuil occupies the first rung with a total of 162 points.
Dubreuil will be back on the track on Sunday for another 500-meter race.
Later Saturday, Canada added two medals, including a bronze in the 10,000-meter race thanks to Ted-Jan Bloemen, who clocked 13: 00.23. His compatriot Graeme Fish was fourth in 13: 07.73.
Sweden’s Nils van der Poel was dominant, taking gold in 12: 38.92.
Finally, the women’s sprint team, made up of Maddison Pearman, Alexa Scott and Ivanie Blondin, earned silver with a time of 1: 28.54, just 18 hundredths of a second behind Poland.
Earlier in the day, Canadian Heather McLean placed 17th in the women’s 500-meter event with a time of 38.695
American Erin Jackson won the race in 37.602 seconds.
