(Quebec) A driver in his forties lost his life when his sport utility vehicle (SUV) collided with another car in Saint-Paul, in Lanaudière, Thursday evening. Two other people were seriously injured in the collision, in which speed may have played a part.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. on Boulevard Brassard (route 343) in Saint-Paul, in Lanaudière.
The 49-year-old driver taking a seat in the SUV would have deviated from his lane before finding himself face to face with a sedan which was traveling in the opposite direction, according to the first information collected by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The force of the impact ejected the driver of the SUV from his vehicle and pronounced him dead at the scene.
As for the occupants of the sedan, a man and a woman in their thirties, they both suffered serious injuries, but which are not life-threatening, according to the SQ. They were transported to a hospital center.
A patrol officer specializing in collisions was dispatched to the scene to begin the investigation work, so that Route 343 was completely closed in the area to allow the police to carry out their operations.
“We already know that speed could have played a role” in this collision, confirmed SQ spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay.
