In the United Kingdom, Parliament swung to the left on Thursday, July 4, after 14 years of power in the hands of the Conservatives. Keir Starmer is expected to be appointed Prime Minister.
With a smile on his face, Keir Starmer celebrated his victory in London (United Kingdom) on Thursday, July 4. He is now the new face of the country. “We did it !”, he rejoiced at the lectern. With 90 seats in Parliament out of 650, the Labour Party won the general elections hands down. After 14 years of Conservative rule, the United Kingdom is taking a turn to the left.
The future Prime Minister says he is ready to embody change. “Our task is nothing less than to renew the ideas that unite this country, the national renewal. Whoever you are, wherever you were born, if you work hard, this country must give you a chance to succeed.”he said. The defeat is bitter for the conservatives, led by the outgoing Prime Minister.
After 20 months in Downing Street, Rishi Sunak, struggling in the polls, had tried a poker move by calling the elections several months early. The election also marks the entry into Parliament of four far-right MPs, a first in the country’s recent history.
