Power 4. Crowned French champion this weekend with PSG, Kylian Mbappé was voted best player in Ligue 1 by his peers for the fourth consecutive season, during the UNFP Trophies ceremony on Sunday May 28. This is a record for the French striker, crowned in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and which exceeds Zlatan Ibrahimovic, awarded three times.

After receiving his trophy from coach Didier Deschamps, the captain of the Blues wanted “first of all” address his “heartfelt thoughts” for Sergio Rico, his Spanish goalkeeper teammate who suffered a serious riding accident on Sunday morning.

While assuring that it would be “still there next season”Mbappé greeted his teammate Lionel Messi, named in the same category but absent from the ceremony. “It’s a privilege to play with players like that”, he praised. Another Parisian, Nuno Mendes, was voted the best hope of the championship.

Award-winning Haise and Samba

In his speech, Mbappé also paid tribute to the “Lensois, who had a great season”. Now guaranteed to play the next Champions League, the Artésiens have indeed been widely highlighted during this ceremony. Franck Haise was named best coach, while Brice Samba, recently called up to the France team, was named best goalkeeper.

For her part, Delphine Cascarino was named D1 Arkéma’s best player. A first reward of this kind for the Lyonnaise, who also recently suffered a serious knee injury which deprived her of the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
