Back in Montreal, where he lived before settling in Berlin, Scott Monteith (Deadbeat) presented at MUTEK, last August, Ark Welders Guild, a more ambient–avant-garde project led with singer Letizia Trussi, but n was able to prevent himself at the end of his performance from returning to the dub techno forms that made him famous, as if to announce the colors of Kübler-Ross Soliloquies. The title refers to the psychiatrist’s work on the theory of the five stages of mourning, that of a modern society which seemed to be heading towards its doom. Run, or dance, Deadbeat deploying eight long compositions with dense and propulsive rhythms, a fusion of techno and dub (Brick Stick Blick Blade. Anger IIfeaturing the voice of poet Black Noble Oluokun) and Jamaican dancehall (evident on Tough Love. Anger I) soaked in these sticky sound textures of which he has the secret. THE groove even becomes militant on the hypnotic dub house Huey Lewis Voters Dub. Negotiationwhich samples the voice of United States civil rights icon Senator John Lewis.
