(Moscow) The Kremlin said Thursday it “hoped” that American elected officials would stop “burning” United States money in Ukraine, a few hours after Congress failed to move forward on new aid for Kyiv.
American leaders “demonize Russia,” Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about comments by President Joe Biden who raised the possibility of a Russian attack on a country member of NATO.
On Wednesday, the American leader warned that a halt to American assistance to Kyiv would be “the greatest gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He “won’t stop” at Ukraine, he warned.
The American administration wants to “continue to burn American taxpayers’ money in the furnace of the Ukrainian war,” said Dmitri Peskov.
“We hope that there are still enough reasonable people in Congress to understand that this is nothing short of absolute demonization,” he added.
The US Congress failed on Wednesday to move forward on a large package of more than $106 billion insisted on by President Biden, including funds for Ukraine and Israel.
The Republican opposition refused to support this text at the heart of very acrimonious negotiations, demanding significant concessions on United States migration policy in exchange for its votes.
Political divisions are jeopardizing American financial support, a disaster scenario for Kyiv whose summer counter-offensive has not brought the hoped-for territorial gains.
The United States is currently the country providing the largest military support to Ukraine. Congress has committed more than $110 billion since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
