A family brawl with a fatal outcome
The murder of King Albrecht I led to the construction of the convent of Königsfelden. His widow Elisabeth and his daughter Agnès, in accordance with the representations of redemption and the afterlife in progress in the Middle Ages, created this place of memory for the Habsburg family. It is here that the knights who fell during the Battle of Sempach will be buried. Five stations provide insight into the history of Königsfelden Convent, from its founding to the present day.

Heyday of the convent under Agnes of Hungary
Queen Agnes cleverly acts as an intermediary and regent in the Vorlande of the Habsburgs. Under his reign, the convent acquired an important economic and artistic reputation. With the suppression of the twin convent, a large part of the convent’s treasure disappears.

Some of the most valuable pieces are kept in the Historical Museum in Bern.

Stained glass windows with European influence
The colored windows are among the most beautiful works of European glass painting from the late Middle Ages. A cycle of stained-glass windows of remarkable consistency still exists. The choir windows were created following donations from relatives of King Albrecht I.

The convent, a cultural meeting place
“tanz&kunst königsfelden” gives a new aura to the Habsburg convent. Dance performances are an integral part of the cultural life of the Aargau region. The convent, thanks to these events, has forged a reputation as a high place of dance well beyond the borders of the country.
