Under the threat of the Russian army, Kiev is largely deserted of its inhabitants. The Ukrainian capital is barricaded and the soldiers say they are ready to stand up.
“It’s been a crazy night here, with explosions everywhere, it has to stop“, alarmed a resident of Kiev. Plunged into chaos, the Ukrainian capital suffered Russian military attacks and had to barricade itself. Ukraine mobilized its reservists and distributed thousands of Kalashnikovs. “I’m making a trench to reinforce it. We must do everything to defend our position.”explains a Ukrainian.
“I live next to the US Embassy, I never thought war could come here”, says another resident. The sirens sound and the soldiers are deployed everywhere in the city center, less than 200 meters from the headquarters of the presidency. They are preparing for an imminent assault by the Russian army on the heart of Ukrainian power. “The president came to see us yesterday (this Friday, February 25), he seems calm, it does us good”, says one of the Ukrainian soldiers ready to stand up. The battle of Kiev has not said its last word.
