Kanesatake illegal dump | The great chef Bonspille launches a cry from the heart

(Ottawa) The Grand Chief of Kanesatake, Victor Bonspille, implored parliamentarians Thursday to resolve the problem of the illegal G & R Recycling dump which is polluting the waterways of his community and neighboring municipalities. He was in the federal capital to answer questions from deputies the day after an emergency meeting to try to resolve the paralysis of the band council.

“I am here to plead that something be done,” he told the dozen MPs who sit on this committee.

He argued that the problem of illegal dumping extends beyond the borders of his community and affects several neighboring municipalities.

The Press revealed the day before that a solution proposed by the federal government to try to resolve the problem of foul odors emanating from this dump has been at an impasse for months due to bickering among community leaders.

The Sustainable Development Institute of the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador agreed in June to coordinate efforts to mitigate these bad odors and determine the cost of decontamination work.

Investigations of The Press in May and June revealed that brownish water flows from the G & R Recyclage site and exceeds by 144 times the concentration of sulphides considered safe for the survival of fish. The dump belongs to brothers Robert and Gary Gabriel, who both have long criminal pasts.

Further details will follow.
