As part of the American presidential campaign, Kamala Harris is tackling the highly sensitive issue of abortion. This subject mobilizes women and young people, voices that can make a difference.
The first ballots were cast on Friday, September 20, in three states in the United States, including Virginia. This early vote aims to mobilize the electorate a month and a half before the presidential election. The women’s vote, in particular, could be decisive. For several days, Kamala Harris has been imposing the theme of abortion, central to the campaign.
She accuses Donald Trump and the Supreme Court of having greatly restricted women’s right to abortion. At a rally in Georgia (United States) on Friday, she seized on the story of a young girl who had moved America: Amber Nicole Thurman. The 28-year-old died in 2022 in Georgia, where it is almost impossible to have an abortion. She had tried to terminate her pregnancy in another state. Back in Georgia, she had faced complications and had not been treated in time.
Abortion will be at the heart of Kamala Harris’ campaign to rally women’s votes.
