July 2nd picks at the Montreal International Jazz Festival

Theo Croker

The versatile American composer, trumpeter and singer Theo Croker, a popular accompanist among jazz colleagues as well as hip-hop and R&B artists, will offer two free concerts, a must for lovers of modern jazz.

Place Tranquille, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Protoje and Tippy I Grade

Spearheading the return of roots reggae in the 2010s, prolific Jamaican singer Protoje will offer a rare performance in Montreal, in a sound system format operated by composer and dub master Tippy I Grade.

Club Soda, 9 p.m.

Georgia Anne Muldrow

The neo-soul-hip-hop singer-songwriter doesn’t have the fame of her cosmic sister Erykah Badu, but the quality of her voice and the richness of her work — some twenty albums in as many years — deserve to be welcomed as a legend.

Gesù, 10:30 p.m.
