“Journey with Spirited Away” by Marta Garcia Villar

Calling all fans of the famous director Hayao Miyazaki ! You will rush on the book that I present to you today. If you know him, he’s the one who made “Princess Mononoke”, “Castle in the Sky”, “Nausicaa”, “My Neighbor Totoro”… Studio Ghibli basically it’s him.

Here, it’s not about Chihiro’s trip but about “Journey with Chihiro”, a tribute book to one of his most famous works. And what’s crazy is that I didn’t realize it, but this release corresponds to the 20th anniversary of the film. And as it was timeless, this trip continues to make spectators around the world dream. A film which, moreover, has not finished revealing its secrets to us.

Thanks to Marta Garcia Villar, a fan of Japanese pop culture, we will go behind the scenes of the production of the feature filmits creation, its sources of inspiration, and we will meet those who participated in the project.

So if you haven’t seen the movie, it doesn’t matter. Either you are lucky and you will know a lot before you see this marvel, or you have seen it 20 times and loved it so much that you want to know more about this work. No problem either way.

We will be able to discover the context of the time, deepen our knowledge of each character, you must remember Yubaba the witch, don’t you? Maybe a little less Haku welcoming Chihiro to the other world? And the music, do you still have it in your ears? Yet the theme was so universal… Marta Garcia Villar will also explain to us what were Miyazaki’s influences at that time, to guide us on the Japanese folklore staged in the film and to help us understand why the success of the film went beyond the borders of Japan. Classic interviews are at the end.

Well I leave you I will watch it again. Sayonara!
