Journalist Mayssa Ferah wins the Arthur-Prévost scholarship

The journalist at The Press Mayssa Ferah received the Arthur-Prévost scholarship on Saturday, during the annual congress of the Professional Federation of Journalists of Quebec (FPJQ). This $2,000 award aims to recognize and support the work of a print journalist at the start of their career.

In the eyes of the members of the jury, formed by members of the profession, the journalist was able to stand out from the 15 other candidates thanks to the “originality and relevance” of her reports. They were particularly impressed by “his risk-taking on the field [qui] allow him to approach social phenomena from new angles”.

Assigned to criminal and police affairs at The PressMayssa Ferah has taken a close interest in the rise in crime and gun violence in Greater Montreal in the past year, not hesitating to meet members of street gangs directly linked to shootings.

“I’m really happy and even a little surprised because the facts are often undervalued and yet we all start there. It’s a great encouragement to continue in this,” said Mayssa Ferah when receiving her award. She took the opportunity to thank her bosses who have “trusted her since day one”, as well as her colleagues, including photojournalist Patrick Sanfaçon.

The jury also awarded an honorable mention to the journalist Montreal Journal Clara Loiseau, congratulating “her good judgment, her work ethic, her creativity as well as the quality of her writing”. His “courage to accept difficult missions to produce reports in complex conditions” particularly challenged the members of the jury. The journalist has, for example, looked into the issue of firearms or that of abortion in the United States in the last year.

“If I chained the reports abroad it is because I am lucky to have bosses who believe in what I do, thank you very much to the Journal de Montreal”, declared for her part Clara Loiseau .
