Jonathan Iglesias goes to Paris FC

Bocha, his nickname, arrived in Auvergne in the 2017 winter transfer window after two seasons in Nancy (where he had already experienced a rise in L1). Jonathan Iglesias had become one of the symbols of Clermont Foot and the captain of a team that plays well and wins. The Uruguayan attacking midfielder, naturalized French last summer, will therefore have spent five years in Clermont.

At 33, he was no longer an indisputable holder by Pascal Gastien. The Clermont Foot coach often had him replace Jason Berthommier around the 70th minute. The many injuries in the workforce allowed Jonathan Iglesias to play a little more in recent meetings but his status was not the same. Especially since it lacks physical power for Ligue 1 because of its small size (1.70 meters for 69 kilos).

Jonathan Iglesias still played 15 Ligue 1 games (plus one in the Coupe de France) but only six as a starter, for 572 minutes of play. The Coupe de France match against Chemin Bas d’Avignon, where he scored his only goal of the season, will therefore be the last under the colors of Clermont Foot, After 172 matches in red and blue. He is the fourth most capped professional player in club history.

He leaves for Paris FC, an ambitious Ligue 2 club. Thierry Laurey’s team is currently third and in the small group of teams playing the climb. For the moment, Jonathan Iglesias has not yet officially signed his contract (of a year and a half) but he has an agreement in principle with the Parisian club. The signature must be done after the medical examination scheduled for next Monday.
