Joe Biden steps down, making way for Kamala Harris

This is THE news that everyone has been talking about this week. US President Joe Biden has announced that he will not be a candidate in the next elections. And it is Kamala Harris, the current vice president, who could replace him. Let’s look at it together.

Why did Joe Biden make this decision?

The American president is 81 years old. In the last month, he has often appeared weak and confused. He has made one gaffe after another. For many Americans, he was no longer fit enough to be president for another four years and he was hurting the Democratic Party’s chances of being reelected.

Joe Biden’s opponent, Donald Trump, was ahead in the polls. He escaped an assassination attempt two weeks ago. He emerged even more popular.

So it may seem strange, but it is because he wants his party to win that Joe Biden has decided to give up his seat. However, he remains the President of the United States until the end of his term in February 2025.

A president dropping out of the race is very rare in the history of the United States. It hasn’t happened in 56 years! That’s why the whole world is talking about this news.

Who will replace him?

Joe Biden would like Kamala Harris to run against Donald Trump instead of him.

And she accepted the mission. Kamala Harris has been Joe Biden’s vice president since 2021. She is trained to replace the president in the event of his death. So it is a role for which she is prepared.

Harris is expected to be officially nominated by the party in the coming weeks. She would become the first black woman to seek the presidency of the United States. This development seems to have given Democrats a good dose of energy.

What does this mean for Donald Trump?

Joe Biden’s withdrawal is not good news for Donald Trump and his team. Donald Trump made fun of Joe Biden’s age and mistakes. He will have to quickly change his speech and adapt to his new opponent.

Trump is now facing someone much younger than him (she is 59 and he is 78). We can expect tough debates: an experienced lawyer against a former president with a criminal record.

This campaign has been a real showdown, and it’s far from over. The vote will take place on November 5th. You can count on the As to follow all this for you!
